Nightmare before Christmas Plated meal

Christmas is arriving in a week's time! Let's countdown by making X'mas related food!
Nightmare before Christmas is one of my favourite Tim Burton's films, plus, it's related to Christmas!

Steps:

I like to cut out everything before plating. Jack's collar pin (!?) is done by using Nori and Mayonnaise!

(It looks much better on Jack.)

Look at the jagged thing at the bottom? It was meant to be Jack's mouth but it took too much effort just to do a one piece. I ended up cutting up a smile and cut the Nori into short strips, as you can see in the above pics, and assembled accordingly.

Yay! Lookin' good! Face and neck are made of rice, shoulders are actually potato salad! (I love potato salad!)

Zero's made up of a egg whites and corn starch mixture.

To make a smooth egg sheet, you sprinkle about 1 tsp of cornstarch to 2 tsp of water. Beat it into egg whites. Pour the egg mixture through a sieve so it won't be lumpy! Cook on pan on low heat.

Zero's nose is ketchup, and eyes - Nori.

X'mas tree! Baked grounded beef!

END PRODUCT!

The writings are done using hamburger sauce. So... so yummy!

It was fun making this.

To more cute food and beyond!

My Melody Cupcakes

It was my BFF's birthday and I just had to make these! Aren't they just so cute?

These are Strawberry Cheese cupcakes, recipe of the base is adapted from The Hummingbird Cupcakes book.

What I used:
1. Swirls: Wilton tip 2D. These are magical! Squeeze the pastry bag and get the frosting out start from the middle and twirl it outwards. Lessen the pressure as you're reaching the end.
2. Fondant for My Melody/Heart. Use cookie cutters for the base, use a knife to cut the shape of My Melody out. To poke dots on the fondant, simply use a toothpick! (Toothpicks are your best friend)

Let me know if you're interested in the process and I'd comply.

My Melody Sandwich

My Melody sandwich for today! (Ham was going to expire today. :X)

My Melody is one of the toughest characters to make, in my opinion.

Why?

Because just a slight error in the size of her nose, eyes, or shape of mouth makes a huge difference!

I have made some My Melodies that look like Jackie Chan. T_T

So you can imagine how happy I was when this attempt passed! YAY!

What I used:

1. Ham for her hood (so gangstah sounding) and flowers
2. Purple flower was done soaking the ham in diluted blue dye
3. Eyes and mouth: Chocolate sauce (YUM!)
4. Nose and center of the flower: Cheese
5. I scattered the bread crumbs from the corners around her because My Melody gives me the image of her carrying a basket, strolling in the woods as she looks for her friends.

That's all for today.

Lumpy Space Princess Bento

Lumpy Space Princess Bento

I LOVE LUMPY SPACE PRINCESS!

She's hilarious and like everyone else who loves her, I'm into her lumps. (HA!)

I thought, if I had to do an Adventure Time bento, who is it gonna be?

WHO ELSE!

I am lovin' her nonchalant expression!

1. LSP's head: Akitakomachi Rice, mixed with pink and blue dye.
2. Eyes and mouth: Nori
3. Star on head: Cheese
4. Stars around her: Potatoes

For the second tier, you could do whatever you like. I made meatballs from scratch, egg rolls with mayonnaise (with food colouring of course!) and strawberries.

I had fun making this, I was giggling as I put her face together. She's just too awesome to be true!

These lumps, you can't have 'em!

Mamegoma Bread Balls

I was looking through the net for Mamegoma bento ideas when I came across this site.

Holy bananas! Squashing bread into a ball? Isn't it kinda bad cause it makes the bread flat?

But heck no, this is plain genius. I stuffed Philadelphia cream cheese inside and that's easily one of the best things I've ever eaten. Each bite commands a heavenly moment as the cheese melts in your mouth. And to top it off, the bread is of the right amount so it doesn't water down the taste of the cheese.

LOOK AT DAT FACE!

JUST LOOK AT THAT!! (LOLOLOL)

I tear a little everytime I bite into these cute faces but THEY ARE SO YUMMY.

Anyway, I'm a poor student and do not have many bento-making tools, so I did things my way. And... look, just look at how cute these look! Rather than using moulds to cut the shapes out, I used food dye and the unwanted bread corners. (Don't be sad bread corners, you were of good use at the end!!)

 What I used:

1. Follow instructions as per the site from the first paragraph of this post.
2. Drip 1-2 droplets of water onto saucer as shown. (I used the ceramic kind as the dye won't stain on these type of surfaces.)
3. Use a toothpick and just dip once into the dyes. (We don't need it to be too concentrated or dark!) Swirl toothpick in the puddle of water you created.
4. Repeat for the other colour.
5. Use the bread corners that you cut off. Use it like a sponge to dip the colouring then dab it on the bread roll to create effect.
6. For the eyes, mouth and nose, I used chocolate sauce and drew the details using a toothpick.

So get off your butt and start making these cause,

1. They're really easy to make.
2. They're really yummy.
3. They're so cute! Don't these just make your day!?

Alright, that's all for now.
