Nightmare before Christmas Plated meal

 

Christmas is arriving in a week's time! Let's countdown by making X'mas related food!

Nightmare before Christmas is one of my favourite Tim Burton's films, plus, it's related to Christmas!

Steps:

I like to cut out everything before plating. Jack's collar pin (!?) is done by using Nori and Mayonnaise!

(It looks much better on Jack.)

Look at the jagged thing at the bottom? It was meant to be Jack's mouth but it took too much effort just to do a one piece. I ended up cutting up a smile and cut the Nori into short strips, as you can see in the above pics, and assembled accordingly.

Yay! Lookin' good! Face and neck are made of rice, shoulders are actually potato salad! (I love potato salad!)

 

Zero's made up of a egg whites and corn starch mixture. 

To make a smooth egg sheet, you sprinkle about 1 tsp of cornstarch to 2 tsp of water. Beat it into egg whites. Pour the egg mixture through a sieve so it won't be lumpy! Cook on pan on low heat.

Zero's nose is ketchup, and eyes - Nori.

X'mas tree! Baked grounded beef!

The writings are done using hamburger sauce. So... so yummy!

My Melody Cupcakes

It was my BFF's birthday and I just had to make these! Aren't they just so cute?

These are Strawberry Cheese cupcakes, recipe of the base is adapted from The Hummingbird Cupcakes book.

What I used:
1. Swirls: Wilton tip 2D. These are magical! Squeeze the pastry bag and get the frosting out start from the middle and twirl it outwards. Lessen the pressure as you're reaching the end.
2. Fondant for My Melody/Heart. Use cookie cutters for the base, use a knife to cut the shape of My Melody out. To poke dots on the fondant, simply use a toothpick! (Toothpicks are your best friend)

My Melody Sandwich

 

My Melody sandwich for today! (Ham was going to expire today. :X)

 

My Melody is one of the toughest characters to make, in my opinion.

Why?

Because just a slight error in the size of her nose, eyes, or shape of mouth makes a huge difference!

I have made some My Melodies that look like Jackie Chan. T_T

So you can imagine how happy I was when this attempt passed! YAY!

What I used:

1. Ham for her hood (so gangstah sounding) and flowers
2. Purple flower was done soaking the ham in diluted blue dye
3. Eyes and mouth: Chocolate sauce (YUM!)
4. Nose and center of the flower: Cheese
5. I scattered the bread crumbs from the corners around her because My Melody gives me the image of her carrying a basket, strolling in the woods as she looks for her friends.
